There are many beautiful places to take photos in Tucson, Arizona. Some of the better locations that come to mind include the Saguaro Nation Monument and the San Xavier Mission. For mountain lovers, you can visit Mount Reisen and Mount Lemon for great photos. If you like canyons and don't have time for the Grand Canyon, the Madera Canyon and the Sabino Canyon are great places to visit. Some other priceless places to visit include the Titian Missle Silo and some old movie sets in Tucson. You can drive a little further to reach places like Nogales and Patagonia, which are about an hour's drive away.
Still another wonderful location is just south of Tucson. Tumacacori is a great place for taking nice pictures of ancient religious scenery. San Xavier Mission is another beautiful and unique mission that you can visit to get some amazing architectural photos. But interior decorators beware: you will not be allowed to take photos of the interior. The mission attracts large crowds on Sundays for the Catholic services so if you want to take photos of the building without the crowds, make sure to go on a Saturday.
MISSION VALLEY
The Saguaro National Park is another great place for colorful pictures. The East and the West sections of the park are separated by about one hour's travel, especially during peak city traffic. You need to visit the West section late in the afternoon for the best lighting conditions. However, you will find the larger Saguaros in the East section of the park.
In addition, Mount Lemmon, and the road leading up to it, offer spectacular views for photographers. The elevation is 9000 feet, so you need to be prepared for the climb if you want to get the best pictures. The Ridge trail along this route is also a great place for taking wonderful pictures of sunsets and of the valleys down below. If you travel northward from Tucson, you will come to the Salt River Canyon. Here you can visit the Desert Museum early in the morning to take photos of the animals in their natural surroundings. However, you may not find many animals after the sun comes up as many rarely come out due to the heat.
Like the animals, you need to be prepared for the heat wherever you take photos in Tucson. You can avoid a lot of heat by getting there early before the sun comes up. You must also drink a lot of water during your hikes. As many of the hotspots are spread out, most of your time will be spent driving these long distances so be prepared for the road trip, too. Still, the scenery and the pictures will be worth every bit of the trouble.
