Psalm 23: The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures: he leads me beside the still waters. 3He restores my soul: he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. He prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies: he anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
No other verse blesses my soul like psalm 23.The Lord is my shepherd, guarding me in my every move; I shall never lack anything. In other words, Christ will take care of all my needs. So reassuring! Those who depend on Christ are assured that there needs are taken careof.
MISSION VALLEY
He makes me graze in green pastures. Just think of a gracious shepherd who takes his beloved flock to lush field to graze. This shepherd has his flock's best interest at heart. Our lord Jesus Christ is this gracious shepherd; tending for we, his flock so that not only don't we stray but we are nourished of his life giving word. Our lord is a good shepherd indeed.
His rod guides and comforts me. Our Lord, just like a good shepherd is always armed-ready to protect their flock from danger. Our lord however uses his rod to guide my paths and ways so that I don't falter, stumble and fall. We live in dangerous times of spiritual blindness. We need Christ to guide our ways; we need the rod of Jesus Christ to guide us in our spiritual sojourn. This is not your average rod though: his word itself is the rod that will guide our paths as we seek his righteousness.
Though I walk in the valley of the shadows of death, I shall not be afraid. Christians go through tribulations, temptations and risks such as persecution and death. We put our lives on the warpath. We need reassurance from our heavenly father. Our lord Himself has assured us that we should not be afraid for He will always walk with us wherever we go. This reminds me of what Jesus once told his disciples: " go ye out and spread the gospel, starting from Jerusalem, Samaria and to the outermost corners of the world".
Our church leaders today are afraid of going out in some remote parts of the world to preach for fear of hostility, harsh environment and a possible likelihood of not coming back alive. I have been immensely blessed by reading psalms 23 and hope you too have been blessed. Let Psalms 23 be your daily mantra as you do the work of God; it will comfort you, encourage and uplift your soul. We shall look at the other uplifting lines in the verse.
